Tips for home workouts

Home workouts: The lifesavers we might have forgotten about before the coronavirus invaded and flipped our routines overnight. But instead of derailing your normal fitness schedule, you can work on your workout at home!

Top tips to make home workouts effective

  • Your workout is still as serious as it was in the gym. Put the phone down.
  • If you work from home, try to keep a schedule that allows you to work at the same time every day.
  • Before you start, clear enough space so that you don't have to adjust the exercises because you don't want to bother moving the coffee table.
  • Only because you currently not moving that much does not mean every session has to be high-intensity. Mix it up with low-impact workouts or take a rest day to roll and stretch

You might think your options are limited if you don't have a whole rack of equipment, but that is definitely not the case. You can use bodyweight exercises to train almost every muscle in your body that works best for maximising muscle building, from your quads (squats) to your buttocks, to your chest (yes, you can do a push-up!) To your core (plank variations for the win!).

However, they are not just great for building strength: bodyweight workouts can be used as a cardio routine, especially if you choose movements that you can easily increase in intensity and perform them in such a way - usually circuit style, with limited rest - which challenges you cardiovascularly.

Train everything from your glutes to your shoulders, join HIIT workouts or low-impact yoga flows - just make sure you do your best every time. Just because no one can see your technical home doesn't make working out for a better & stronger you any less important.

We understand that a home workout might seem like it would be less intense or less effective than its gym counterpart, but that is simply not true. Who says you can't work as hard from your living room floor? Nobody, that's who!
